Think your computer has a virus?

Viruses rarely announce themselves anymore. More often you’ll notice pop-ups that won’t go away, a browser home page you didn’t choose, new toolbars, or a computer that suddenly runs hot and slow. Some of the most harmful programs are the quietest, like ones that record what you type to steal passwords.

Fake virus warnings and phone scams

A very common trick is a pop-up saying your computer is infected and telling you to call a number. That number goes to scammers, not Microsoft or Apple. If you see one, don’t call it, and don’t let anyone connect to your computer. Close the browser or turn the computer off, then call us. The same goes for unexpected calls from someone claiming to be tech support. We never call you first.
